- The X20 Express bus links Stone with Aylesbury, Thame and Oxford.
Until the work on HS2 is completed this stage ends at Stone, a short bus ride from Aylesbury. There are a lot of stiles, some awkward.
1: Junction of Thame High St and Church Rd. Go down Church Rd and follow the footpath through the churchyard. Go down steps and keep ahead along Thame Rd. Carefully cross the A418 and next busy minor road. Turn left along the pavement. At footpath sign turn right over awkward stile and bear left across two more stiles. Weave through the industrial estate then turn right on footpath with large yellow lettering. Keep ahead into countryside and bear left on footpath. At path junction turn right, bear left and at path junction keep ahead through middle of field. At next junction go through the gate to a seat by the R. Thame or turn left to continue the walk to Notley Abbey.
2: Notley Abbey. From the Abbey turn left up the hill and turn right on path round buildings. Follow the track round to the left, go down the hill, through gate and keep ahead to railway. Carefully cross when green light shows and keep ahead to lane at Chearsley. Turn left to visit the Bell pub. To continue walk turn right and then left at new signpost. Go down steps to lane and bear right on footpath. Turn left at path junction and at stream crossing take left fork ahead, aiming for distant house and telegraph pole. Go over rickety stile (at the time of writing) to lane. Turn right then left at junction. At footpath sign turn right, cross two fields to road and turn right into Nether Winchendon. Go past the church to the road junction where there is a seat.
3: Road junction by church in Nether Winchendon. Turn right down the hill and at footpath junction just before the old mill (house) bear slightly left on very faint path round the bottom of the hill. Bear slightly right to path junction at boundary. Keep contouring the hill, crossing stiles at field boundaries, and pass to the left of a moat. Keep ahead to drive and go through gate at the side of drive on rough ground and pass Bridge Lodge. Turn right over the bridge and follow the paved drive first downhill then steadily uphill for about a mile. Keep ahead to the main road at Stone crossroads. The X20 bus stop for Thame and Oxford is opposite on the right. The one for Aylesbury is on the left.
